A Chinese cargo vessel has been seized off the coast of Alaska, according to local officials.

State and local authorities said Thursday the vessel was discovered in the water off the Kodiak Peninsula early Thursday.

A U.S. Coast Guard cutter is searching the waters near Kodiak Island, where the ship is located, but no further information was immediately available.

The vessel is suspected of carrying up to 100 tons of crude oil and liquefied natural gas, according the Alaska State Troopers Office.

It’s unclear whether the vessel is still in the ocean.

The Alaska National Guard has been alerted and is on standby, said State Troops spokeswoman Katie Crouch.
